Firefly brings millions to Delaware

Delaware Governor Jack Markell says, “I have a feeling this is going to be an awesome, awesome weekend.”

The kick off press conference at Firefly began with high spirits. It revealed staggering numbers from this year’s festival.

Officials tell 47 ABC there are 90,000 people attending Firefly this year. They say this is by far the highest attendance they’ve ever had

Greg Bostrom, the director of Firefly says, “This is our first full sellout. We did that without selling single day tickets. I think what this means is that people have fallen in love with the Woodlands.”

Delaware Governor Jack Markell says tourism is a $2.9 billion industry in the state of Delaware. $Firefly brought in $68 million to the state. The numbers are still being added up for this year.

Governor Markell continues, “What could possibly be better than to bring all of these people to see what a phenomenal place Delaware is on Firefly weekend? They spend money while they’re here and come back the rest of the year to enjoy the amazing things we have to offer; including our burgeoning music venues.”

Governor Markell is practicing what he’s preaching. He and his wife brought a crew of friends from out of state so they could see what Firefly is all about. He goes on, “We’re going to have a great time.”
