Donalds, Shank Power South To Win In Senior Game

The South traveled to Colonel Richardson on Monday afternoon and defeated the North in the annual Senior Bayside Game 12-7. Mardela’s Kristina Shank was named the MVP for team South, while North Caroline’s Julie Saathoff was named the MVP of the North.

The South would jump out to a quick lead in the top of the first after Shank blasted a 2 run shot to left. That lead would hold through the bottom of that frame after Bennett’s Kasey Donalds took the mound and was dominate. She would strike out the side in the 1st on her way to recording 11 punch outs on the day. South would then stretch their lead to 4-0 after RBI singles from Snow Hill’s Sydney Hall and Shank. Donalds would then have a RBI double to push the lead to 5-0. The North would then get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd after Queen Anne’s Casey Graef scored off a wild pitch. The North continued to chip away at the lead and after Queen Anne’s Lilia Torchio scored off a wild pitch, the deficit was down to 5-2. Shank would then come through for the South with another RBI single to push the lead back to 6-2. Donalds and Bennett’s Angel Adkins would rip RBI singles and push the lead to 8-2. 

That’s when the North would make their run. Cambridge SD Kritie Malkus would draw a walk with the bases loaded, followed by a 2 RBI single from Easton’s Sydney Chance. North Caroline’s Julie Saathoff would have an RBI single and all the sudden the North was only down 2 runs. The South would score off a couple wild pitches and close out the game for a win.
