Dewey Beach death investigation

Authorities from Dewey Beach say a death investigation is underway for a man found near Chesapeake Street Beach.
According to Sergent Clifford Dempsey of the Dewey Beach Police, the 50-year-old victim was found unresponsive around 6:50 p.m. Saturday. When Dewey Beach authorities found him, they reportedly began performing a Two Man Rescuer CPR until the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene with advanced life support.
Police tell 47 ABC, the man was transported to Beebe Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
We’re that due to dangerous, adverse surf conditions, and lightning, the Dewey Beach Patrol evacuated the beach facility around 4:49 p.m. Saturday. Two hours later, the one remaining Dewey Beach Patrol Mobile Unit had reportedly returned to the Dewey Beach Life Saving Station due to the presence of lightning.
The exact cause of death has not been determined; however, police tell 47 ABC they believe it was a surf-related trauma.
The Delaware Medical Examiner’s Office has been contacted and is continuing the investigation.
