Delmar man arrested after reportedly stabbing bystander during fight

A Delmar man is facing charges, after he reportedly stabbed a man who was trying to break up a fight.
Georgetown Police say on Sunday around 1:40 PM, Officers responded to reports of a stabbing on North Bedford Street. Once on scene, Police say they found that a 19-year-old man had been attempted to break up a fight between a 17-year-old and 25-year-old Alejandro Vargas-Perez.
According to the report during the incident, Perez stabbed the 19-year-old several times. The victim was then rushed to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while Perez apparently fled the scene.
Police say they did find the knife and were able to get in contact with Perez, who later met with Officers at the station for an interview. During the interview, Perez reportedly told investigators that he had been in the fight, and was waiving the knife as protection, but didn’t know that he had actually hurt the bystander.
Perez was then charged with felony assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, aggravated menacing, and reckless endangering, and is now being held at the Sussex Correctional Institute on a $82,000 secured bond, with a future court date.
