Adams completes her run across MD

18-year-old Caitlin Adams, an Eastern Shore native and Towson sophomore, finished her run across Maryland Saturday. Adams’ trip that started back in May with the purpose of raising awareness and money for the non-profit organization Limbs for life.
“It feels good but I keep saying it’s bittersweet because it’s been an amazing ride, but it’s really cool to come to the finish line and see everybody out here that came to make this happen,” Adams said.
When Caitlin Adams first told people about her idea to run across the state, Adams said people told her it was impossible but 390 miles later she’s proved all those people wrong and raised money for a good cause.
“So many people that didn’t believe in me, but you just have to use that as motivation,” Adams said.
“Believe in yourself and do it, because anybody can do anything.”
Adams told 47 ABC that running is her “go to” in life and that she embarked on this mission to help purchase new prosthetic limbs for amputees, so that they could enjoy that runners high as well.
Throughout her run Adams kept a charm around her neck, a Texas long horn, which reminded her of her trip to Texas to meet the first person that received a prosthetic as a result of her fundraiser.
Adams said whenever she felt pain in her legs she would look down at the charm and remember how happy that first recipient was to meet Adams and receive her donation.
She said meeting all the amputees she did along her run, not just the ones she has helped, motivated her as well.
“It was definitely seeing all the amputees, not just the ones that I helped out but you know Nathan’s out here and he’s two years old and he’s as happy as can be and he’s got a prosthetic and he’s the real hero,” Adams said.
In total Adams raised just under $22,000, which translated into seven new prosthetic limbs for those who need them.
Despite the daunting task Adams faced in running across the state, Adams mother and her cousin never doubted she could get the job done.
“I knew in my heart that she was going to do it she’s ever driven and motivated,” said her mother, Gina Adams.
“I had faith in her the whole time she’s a beast that’s how I’ll put it,” added her cousin, Antoinette Loizo.
Adams said seeing all the people waiting for her at the finish line felt amazing.
Next up, Adams says she’ll set her sights on the college track season and possibly planning a run across America.
