UPDATE: Clay files motion fighting extradition

68-year-old James Leon Clay of Georgetown

A Sussex County Superior Court judge is currently in the process of reviewing a motion to stay filed by a Georgetown man, wanted for a 1967 murder in Arkansas.

Sixty seven-year-old James Clay filed a motion to stay with the superior court on April 28th. The motion, if granted, would stop his extradition to Arkansas. On Tuesday, the state recommended the judge deny Clay’s “motion to stay.”

We’re told the judge will make a decision on this motion in the next couple of days. Clay is wanted in Jackson County, Arkansas for what police say was the kidnapping and murder of James Ricks back in 1967.
