UMES Baseball’s Season Ends In Heartbreak

The University of Maryland Easter Shore’s baseball team watched their 2015 season come to a close Thursday with a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to Norfolk St. in the MEAC tournament. The Hawks finish the year with a 16-33 record.
The Hawks would take an early lead after scoring runs in the 1st and 2nd. The Spartans would then plate 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to tie up the game. Skylar Murray would then have a 2 RBI single to highlight a 3 run 5th to give the Hawks a 6-2 lead. Norfolk St. would then fight their way back. 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th would get them within a run, where they score would remain leading to the 9th. There the lead off man would get on board after he sent a chopper to short that was booted. That was followed with a RBI double that was smoked up the first base line, finding the wall in the corner. A ground out would advance the potential game winning run to 3rd with 1 out. The Hawks would intentionally walk the next batter to set up the double play. UMES would then get the ground ball they were looking for, getting the force out at 2nd, before having the relay sail over the 1st baseman’s head to end the game.
