Sussex Co. boater accused of throwing knife at fishermen

An Ocean View man is facing charges, after he reportedly threw a knife at fisherman onshore.

DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police say on Monday, 52-year-old Jeffery Cumens, was driving a boat in the Indian River Inlet, when he threw a filet knife, narrowly missing anglers and bystanders onshore. There were reportedly no injuries reported.

Cumens was then arrested, and charged with second-degree felony reckless endangering and disorderly conduct, and released on an unsecured bond, pending a preliminary hearing.

Cumens was also apparently ordered to have no-contact with another person involved in the incident, and isn’t allowed to operate a boat, or be a passenger on a boat in Delaware waters, before his hearing.

Residents can report fish, wildlife, and boating violations to the Delaware Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Section by calling 302-739-4580.
