Suspicious odor report: Students back inside Pittsville Elementary and Middle Schools

A representative with the Wicomico County school district has confirmed with 47 ABC that a report of a suspicious odor at Pittsville Elementary and Middle School came in around 8:20 a.m. Monday morning.

The odor was coming from the gym. All students were evacuated from the buildings following the report.

Pittsville, Paronsburg, and Willards fire departments responded to the scene.

Responders found that an air handler on the roof of the gym was causing the smell. It was turned off and after about fifty-five minutes following the evacuation, students returned to class.
