Students rally behind classmate facing cancer

A local elementary school is rallying around a fellow student who has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer.
Three weeks ago, Rhyne Taylor, a fifth grader at North Salisbury Elementary, school found out she has a brain tumor. Since then the school has written cards and poems and has also started fundraising for the family.
On Thursday, students painted each other’s faces and paid fifty cents each to do so. The school is also marking certain days where students can pay a dollar to wear a casual top, instead of the normal uniform.
In just two days they have raised over $750 dollars.
Teachers and students say it’s also about an outward display of love for Rhyne.
Principal Ruby Brown tells 47 ABC, “We are very fortunate to come to a school where everyone shows that they care, even students in the third grade who don’t know Rhyne, who’s in fifth grade . . . and what more can you ask for because they are all giving from there heart.”
47 ABC spoke with the Taylor family over the phone and they tell us they were left speechless from the all acts of kindness.
The students will also be holding a bake sale at hte fifth grade band concert on May 12. Another event is scheduled at Five Guys in Salisbury on June 1.
