Strawberries ripe for picking on Delmarva

With a harsh and lingering winter behind them, many farmers on the eastern shore are now in the thick of strawberry picking season.

47 ABC stopped by Emily’s Produce in Cambridge on Wednesday. The owner, Kelly Jackson, says prime harvesting season is usually between April and the beginning of May but this year, the time frame has shifted a bit.

The berries are in full bloom and ready for picking, despite a stressful early May harvest which she says was a little bit trickier due to the cold winter leading up to it.

“It was a cold winter but now that we’re into May, Mother’s Day we started picking. We opened our “You-Pick-Patch” on Mother’s Day so we’re expecting a really good harvest and they’re really plentiful right now.” Says Jackson.

Jackson also says picking season could last into the month of June.
