Seventh-Inning Rally Sends Cambridge To Regional Championship

The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School baseball team overcame a six-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh to walk off against Mardela Wednesday afternoon, 9-8, to advance to the regional championship.
It was the Warriors that jumped out early in this one, knocking out the Vikings’ starting pitcher in the first inning on a five-run effort. A grounder up the middle by Taylor Cox got the scoring started, before a standup double by Landon Warfield brought home two more runs.
There would just be three runs apiece scored the rest of the way until the bottom of the seventh. Needing just three outs by the Warriors to advance to the regional championship with an 8-3 victory, they would come up short when the rally caps were put on by the Vikings. Cambridge answered in the bottom of the seventh with six runs to walk off with a 9-8 comeback.
Cambridge now advances to the regional title game against Colonel Richardson on Friday at 4 p.m.
