Salisbury Zoo reveals baby bear cub’s gender

The Salisbury Zoo has announced the gender of their newborn Andean bear cub.

On Wednesday, the cub reportedly received a routine physical exam, during which the zoo’s veterinarian found that she is a female! The exam also revealed that the cub, who was born on January 23rd to Chaska, weighs about 15 pounds, and is in good health. She reportedly also received her vaccinations.

Officials from the zoo say “Currently in the captive population, males are more common making this female a valuable addition to the Andean bear breeding program.”

The cub, who is spending more and more time out in the bear exhibit, can be seen from 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM daily at the Zoo.
