Salisbury mayor announces neighborhood proposals

To address blemishes in the Salisbury such as run-down neighborhoods, Mayor also proposed three initiatives to the council.

One idea was to amend the 4-2 law, which limits the number unrelated people renting a single unit to two people or fewer. His proposal includes no longer allowing exemptions for landlords who meet specific requirements like parking availability and the number of rooms in a house.

Another idea was to set aside 45,000 dollars to purchase vacant and abandoned homes. Homes by the city would either be eligible for donation to Habitat For Humanity, Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services or demolished.

Mayor Ireton’s third initiative would be to create the role of a Community Development Specialist. That specialist would reportedly identify funding sources and work with various agencies.

We’re told the council has decided to move the last two measures forward to a vote.
