Polytech’s Five-Run First Inning Was Enough For The Win
The Polytech Panthers softball team played host to the Indian River Indians on Saturday morning. The two teams were facing off looking to keep their state championship hopes alive.
Polytech got their bats moving from the start of the game. The Panthers would rally and score 5 runs in just the first inning alone, while managing to play solid defense as well. Pitcher, Shaina Reed, was making plays on her own including an incredible double play catch and throw to first to get out of the inning with a runner on second to keep the shutout alive.
A scary moment for Indian Rivers shortstop who was involved in a collision at second base. She hurt her ankle and did not return to the game. Meanwhile, her team continue to try to get on the board, but Polytech’s defense continued to stay strong on the field.
The Panthers got the win over the Indians 5-2 and Polytech advances to the next round taking on the number five seed, Appoquinimink, at home – with a 4:00 pm start time.
