Police officers wound man in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach police say a suspect was shot and wounded by police who responded to a fatal shooting near the Virginia Wesleyan College campus.

Police spokeswoman Tonya Borman says a woman was fatally shot and a man was wounded at a home Friday night.

Borman says an officer saw another man nearby fitting a description of a suspect. Officers and the man exchanged gunfire and the man was wounded.

On Saturday Borman identified the woman as 43-year-old Bridgette Linetta White of Virginia Beach. She says 51-year-old James Wallace White Jr. of Virginia Beach has been charged with second-degree murder, felonious assault and weapons violations. He’s being held without bond in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

It wasn’t immediately known whether the Whites were related.
