Mardela Upsets Snow Hill In High-Scoring Battle On The Diamond

The fifth-seeded Mardela High School baseball team upset top-seeded Snow Hill in the 1A East Quarterfinals on a rain-filled Monday afternoon at John Walter Smith Park. This is the second-consecutive upset for the Warriors in the state tournament.

It was a battle right out the gates, seeing the bats get hot early. Mardela jumped out to a three-run lead through the top of the first inning before the Eagles answered with six runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, including a three-run homer by Chondre Johnson that bounced off the top of the fence and dropped on the opposite side to give Snow Hill the lead.

The bats would go back-and-forth through this one with the Warriors having the last say in the seventh, taking the game 19-18.

Mardela now advances to to the regional semifinals against Cambridge, who defeated Washington today 3-0. The game is set for Wednesday, May 13 at 4 p.m., at Cambridge.
