Local soldier honored at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens

A fallen soldier from Nanticoke was given special recognition at the annual Memorial Day celebration at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium.

U.S. Army Sergeant-Major Wardell Turner was honored Monday. He was the only native Marylander killed in combat the last twelve months.

He and another soldier died on November 24th in Kabul, Afghanistan when an enemy attacked their vehicle with an explosive.

Congressman Charles Albert Ruppersberger presented a plaque to Turner’s widow and his mother to memorialize his service and sacrifice.
