Laurel Baseball Pulls Away Late Vs. Washington

The Laurel baseball team took on Washington in the Bi-State Challenge, and came away with a 3-1 win. The win improves the Bulldogs to 4-5, while the loss drops the Jaguars to 6-12.
The teams would be in a pitchers duel early as neither team would be able to get their bats going. The Bulldogs would have trouble catching up to Julius White’s speed on the mound, while Jeff Howard seemed to come up with the big pitch every time he needed it. Laurel would eventually strike first after Howard hit an RBI single to score Desmond Parker. The Jags would then fight back to tie up the game after Jimmy Mansfield would hit a sac fly to left to bring in White. Then the Dawgs would take over in the bottom of the 6th, plating 3 runs highlighted by an RBI single from Mitchell Moyer.
Washington now awaits the release of the state playoff bracket to find out who they will play next, while Laurel returns to action Monday when they take on Delmarva Christian.
