Knussman’s Bomb Blast’s SU Over McDaniel

The Salisbury University softball team won their regional opener Friday afternoon against McDaniel 4-0. The win improves the Sea Gulls to 31-6 on the year.
The teams would be locked in a pitchers battle early on. Rachel Johnson was on top of her game, pitching a complete game 1 hitter, while striking out 14. But Caroline Brehm was just as good for most of the game for McDaniel. As the game wore on, Salisbury eventually started to get some scoring opportunities. They would work the bases loaded with 1 out in the 5th, but a pop up and a ground out would end the inning. SU would finally break through in the 6th though, after getting runners on 2nd and 3rd, Molly Simpson would reach on an infield error, allowing both Anna Brittingham and Paige Knussman to score. Rachel would shut the door in the bottom of the frame, and SU would take a 2-0 lead into the 7th. There SU would get the insurance they were looking for. Kim Dorsey would start the inning with a lead off single. Two batters later, Knussman would crank one over the center field fence for a 2 run jack to put the game out of reach.
Salisbury University returns to action later this afternoon to take on No. 10 Virginia Wesleyan.
