IRS scammers threaten arrest

The Ocean City Police department is warning folks of a scam, which clams that you could be arrested if you don’t pay. The caller will demand payment over the phone for unpaid taxes and then proceed to threaten you with arrest if you don’t pay immediately.
Police warn that these callers are not the IRS because the IRS would never threaten you and also won’t call you without trying to contact you by other means first, for example, a letter. The IRS also provides citizens with the opportunity to question or appeal payment, whereas these scammers, seem to get irate if you do not comply.
Lieutenant Tim Robinson of the Wicomico County Sherriffs office tells 47 ABC, this kind of scam has happened here in the county. He’s even seen threats where the caller claims to be with the sheriff’s office. Keep in mind, local law enforcement won’t be involved with your taxes because they do not enforce federal tax law. If you are a victim of an IRS scam, contact your local police department right away.
