Iron blamed for trailer fire in Felton

A mundane household chore is being blamed for starting a trailer home fire in Felton.
The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal says on Friday, around 9:30 AM, emergency crews responded to reports of a fire at a trailer on Plymouth Road. Once on scene, fire crews reportedly found the structure engulfed in flames. The only occupant was apparently able to escape, but needed to be treated for smoke inhalation and a burn by emergency medical personnel at the scene.
Deputy Fire Marshals say they investigated the cause of the blaze, and found that it started inside a bedroom, where a clothing iron had mistakenly been left on. The iron reportedly ignited the bedding. The fire has been ruled as accidental.
Heavy damage to the home, estimated at $20,000, has apparently made the structure uninhabitable. There were reportedly no smoke alarms inside the house trailer.
