Hurricane season safety tips

The Department of Emergency Services want the public to be prepared if a hurricane warning is issued. Even people in areas that haven’t been affected by hurricanes, should not take warnings lightly.

Some tips for being prepared for a hurricane are having an emergency kit with first aid for your family and even your pets. Non-perishable food and fresh water should also be handy and keeping your car full of gas is also a necessity in case of an evacuation order.

David Shipley, Director of Emergency Services, said the first step to hurricane preparedness is citizen awareness. Shipley tells 47 ABC, “One of the most important things that our citizens can do is to monitor the weather when severe weather is approaching something like a hurricane they must stay informed. If your advised to evacuate an area please do so.”
