Heat-related emergency patient airlifted to PRMC

Troopers from the Maryland State Police performed a helicopter-assisted hoist rescue after receiving a call for a person experiencing a heat-related medical emergency.

Around 11:20 a.m. Friday, authorities from the Wicomico County 911 Center say they received a call from the area of Muddy Hole Road and Trinity Church Road. Upon arrival, rescue crews reportedly had to trek across nearly 300 yards of marshland before reaching the victim.

According to the Maryland State Police, crews found a 69-year-old man experiencing heat exhaustion and in need of hospitalization but due to the victim’s location and condition, authorities say a hoist extraction was considered more beneficial to the patient.

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Easton Section from Trooper 6 was dispatched for the hoist mission.

The victim was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

In a statement sent to 47 ABC, authorities from the Maryland State Police say “This search and rescue incident highlights the team work that occurs daily by Maryland’s emergency medical care system.”
