Harrington man cited for marijuana, after strange smell sickens neighbors

An emergency call for a strange odor, led to the arrest of a Harrington man on drug charges on Sunday.

Harrington Police say around 8:00 PM, the Harrington Fire Company, Houston Fire Company EMS and Kent County EMS responded to a call for an unknown odor, with several sick people, at a home on Weiner Avenue. Once on scene, crews say they found that the home was split into two apartments, both of which were searched.

During the search, firefighters reportedly found marijuana in plain view, which brought Harrington Police to the scene.

At the scene, Police found that 50-year-old Tracy Perkins was the resident of the apartment, and took him into custody. He was issued a criminal summons for possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released pending a future court appearance.

Police and firefighters were apparently able to find that the odor was the marijuana from Perkin’s apartment. According to the report, no other hazards were found at the home.
