Easton drops softball title game to Middletown
The Easton Warriors softball team fell just short of capturing the program’s eighth state title since 2000, falling to Middletown High School Saturday at the University of Maryland softball complex.
A scoreless game thru two and a half innings, Middletown’s Annie McClain took Easton starter Savannah Miles’ offering over the left field wall. With the 1-0 lead, Middletown starter Sami Main began to get even more comfortable, mowing down batter after batter.
After getting out of a couple of bases loaded sit clinging to a 1-0 lead, Middletown struck again. The Knights got a big 2-out, 2-run hit by LF Emma Watt to bring home Taylor Green and Meghan Brown.
With a 3-0 lead, Main ran thru the sixth with no woes. Green would add an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to push Middletown’s lead to 4-0. Easton got three straight hits to begin the 7th, and got on the board via an Alecia Hall infield single, scoring Anna Slaughenhoupt. But the rally would end there, as Sydney Chance was retired on a ground ball back to Main. Easton finishes back to back years as a state finalist.
