Early Lead Lifts DSU Baseball By Bethune-Cookman

The Delaware State University baseball team won their MEAC tournament opening round game Wednesday morning over Bethune-Cookman 6-2. The Hornets will now face top seeded Norfolk State Wednesday night.
The Hornets would jump out to a quick lead after Chris Gonzalez would rope a 2 RBI single in the 1st. Lane DeLeon was dealing for the Hornets, and would slow down the Wildcats’ bats for much of the first part of the game. Ron Farley would then get ahold of one in the 4th for a solo home run to push DSU’s lead to 3-0. Then the Hornets would stretch their lead out even further after Gonzalez would hit another RBI single in the 5th. Bethune-Cookman would finally find their pace at the plate though in the 7th. A RBI fielders choice, followed by a RBI single would cut DSU’s lead to 4-2 headed to the 8th. There the Hornets would again gain some breathing room. Justin Allen would hit a sac fly to right to make it 5-2, followed by a RBI double from Farley. The Wildcats would get the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a ground out to short would end it.
