Decatur Cruises Past Bucs Into Regional Championship

The Stephen Decatur High School girl’s lacrosse team advanced to the regional championship Monday afternoon after cruising past Kent Island, 17-6, to remain undefeated with a 15-0 record.
The Seahawks took control of this one early, jumping out to a 9-0 lead on the Bucs before halftime. Kent was able to get on the board before the break and carried that momentum into the second half. With three more goals to start the final half, four-unanswered finishes by the Bucs put some life back into the squad. But, Decatur did answer, with four goals of its own to put the game away.
The Seahawks had scoring all over the roster, seeing Payton VanKirk finish with four goals while her sister Lexie had three goals and three assists. Blair Yesko finished with a game-high nine points off three goals and six assists, and Elle Bargar added a hat trick.
The Seahawks now advance to the regional championship on Wednesday, May 13 against Calvert, who upset La Plata today, 8-7.
