CrossFit Lewes’ “Share the Pain” hopes to raise $50,000 for domestic violence survivors

Cross fit fans in Lewes are gearing up for a good cause.
CrossFit Lewes is holding a kick-off party on May 6th at the Starboard in Dewey Beach, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, to benefit People’s Place. The organization supports survivors of domestic violence in Kent and Sussex counties.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
On May 17th, CrossFit Lewes is holding a cross fit competition “Share the Pain 3.” The more money that teams fundraise, the more points they get towards the final competition. The event is open for spectators, and donations will be accepted.
“It began as a way for members to introduce the community to the cross fit workout, but it’s ended up as a really huge event, says Kim Rigby, communication and donor relations for People’s Place.
Last year, the fundraiser brought in $33,000 which went directly towards domestic violence survivors and shelters. CrossFit Lewes has set a goal of $50,000 for this year.
“It helps with providing rent, security deposit, childcare expenses, medical bills, cell phone bills, transportation costs,” says Marcey Rezac, program director. “It’s really vital money that helps them become independent.”
