Colonel squeaks out win to take Bayside title, remain undefeated
Caleb Johnson pitched a two-hit, complete game shutout for the Colonel Richarson Colonels as they won their 19th straight game this season, taking the Bayside Championship game 1-0 over Stephen Decatur.
Johnson got into trouble in the first inning, when his defense committed three errors, still Johnson remained calm and got his third strikeout of the inning, stranding the bases loaded. By the fourth inning, Johnson had already collected 7 strikeouts, to just one hit.
Colonel would breakthrough in the bottom of the fouth, first baseman Jaret Bennett would score on a fielder’s choice. Despite getting two runners in scoring position at that time, Decatur starter Sean Colgan would get out of the inning with minimal damage.
