Colonel Richardson Fights For The Regional Championship Title

Colonel Richardson and Mardela softball went head-to-head on March 24 resulting in a 4-3 win for the Colonels. Nearly two months later, the Colonels and Warriors met once again, but this time with a regional championship on the line.

In four out of five years, Colonel Richardson and Mardela have met up in the state playoffs this year the Colonels were looking to defend their home territory. Both teams were fighting hard to get the one in the regional championships on Friday afternoon, but in the fifth inning the Colonels cranked up the heat and got their bats moving. With two outs and the game tied up at one, Colonel Richardson Took control and scored the go-ahead run to make it to 2-1. The Warriors were not going to go down easy as they would get runners on second and third with two outs, but Colonel Richardson made a big play on defense to help get themselves out of the inning.

Those defensive stops continued into the top of the seventh – Jayna Turner made a couple big plays in the outfield including the last play of the game that had people holding their breath – a ball deep into right field, but Turner made to catch to end the game and Colonel Richardson wins the regional championship for the first time since 2013, with a 2 – 1 victory over Mardela.

A great season by the Warriors who continue to play great softball all season long – dropping only their second game of the season today to Colonel Richardson.

Colonel Richardson’s journey continues on Tuesday as they will play in the regional finals.
