Cape makes it seven straight with win over Polytech

The Cape Henlopen Vikings girls lacrosse team won their seventh straight DIAA state championship, defeating Polytech 16-6 at Dover High School Tuesday night.

Sarah Tappan scored the Vikings first four goals, as she dueled with Poly’s Ali McKay. McKay kept Polytech within 2 goals (5-3) late in the first half, but the Vikings pushed their lead to 8-5 at half.

The half Cape began to bury Poly. Tappan scored another quick goal, while Lexi Woodruff would score her fourth assist, finding Cailey Thornburg. Polytech would fight back sparingly with goals, but never got it closer than their halftime deficit.

The Vikings prove to still be the team to beat in Delaware, and currently hold a 21-game playoff winning streak in addition to their seven straight titles.
