Cape Advances To The State Finals

The Cape Henlopen baseball team looked to earn a bid into the state championship game for the first time in program history. The Vikings traveled to Frawley Field in Wilmington taking on the Caravel Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers opened up the game strong with three unanswered runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Vikings began to chip away at the lead cutting the deficit to just one run sitting at 3-2.

Caravel kept things moving along with Brandon Fraley bringing in a couple runs to make it 5-2. However, Cape would not go away in this one with an unforgettable comeback moment.

The game went into extra innings with the score tied up at six when, freshman, Austin Elliott crushed one over the left fielder’s head to bring the go-ahead and eventually game-winning runs to make it 8-6.

Bottom of the ninth and the Bucs trying to stay alive and would rally to score one run, but it was not enough to take back the lead.

Cape wins the game, 8-6, while managing to make it to the State Championship game this Saturday at Frawley Stadium at 1:00 pm
