Bridgeville man convicted of kidnapping and carjacking appeals sentence

Rondaiges Harper

A Bridgeville man convicted for keeping an elderly Delaware woman captive in the trunk of her car is appealing his sentence.

Defense attorney John Brady, who is representing Rondaiges Harper, made oral arguments against the state in Supreme Court today. He feels that the carjacking was not a complete offense.

The charge stems from an incident back in March 2013 when Harper and several other teens reportedly held 90-year-old Margaret Smith in the trunk of her car, then dumped her in a cemetery. However, Brady says Harper was not involved with taking Smith’s keys, and did not get in the car until hours later.

Harper was sentenced to thirty years behind bars last July. The Supreme Court will reportedly make a decision within ninety days.
