Young woman charged in school bus involved crash in Talbot County

Maryland State Police Easton Barrack say, a 23-year-old woman is now facing chargers after apparently causing a crash with a school bus carrying more than two dozens students.

Reports say on Wednesday around 8:00 PM, 23-year old Panaya Abebe, of Rockville Maryland was driving westbound on Route 50 at Almshouse Road when she got a flat tire, and went into the median. She then reportedly attempted to move the vehicle from the median to the adjacent shoulder, but apparently didn’t have her headlights on. Troopers say, she ended up driving into the path of a Kent County School bus, driven by 76-year-old James Schauber of Worton, Maryland, who was transporting the Kent County High School Boys Lacrosse Team home after a game in Salisbury. Unable to avoid a crash the bus exited the roadway, onto the shoulder and into a ditch.

There were no serious injuries reported from the 29 occupants on the bus or from Abebe.

The investigation revealed Abebe was at fault and will now face chargs of negligent driving, unsafe lane changing, and failure to display two lighted front lamps when required.
