Young entrepreneur finds success with waffle company

In about two weeks 47 ABC will have our second annual Shark Tank Casting call. Local entrepreneurs will get a chance to pitch their business ideas in front of a casting producer for the hit ABC show.

Saturday, 47 ABC met a local entrepreneur who did it last year and won a 10,000 grant for his product.

Joost Elling is the owner and CEO of Joost Waffle Company. He’s eighteen- years- old. He tells us he got the idea for the business while traveling in the Netherlands when he was fourteen. While he was on his trip, he fell in love with stroopwafels. They’re thin, waffle-cookies layered with caramel and chocolate.

Elling says Shark Tank boosted his confidence and allowed him to grow distribution of his products. He tells 47 ABC has big plans for the future.

Elling says, “I want to try and make it the official Delaware state cookie as soon as I can. I’ve talked to a local state representative about it. Hopefully I can get it as soon as I can.”

47 ABC has teamed up with the Perdue School of Business to host the casting call on May 9th. Elling will be there meeting with a food scientist to work on extending the shelf life of his product.
