Young entrepreneur finds success through waffle company

In about two weeks 47 ABC will have our second annual Shark Tank Casting call at Salisbury University.

Local entrepreneurs will get to pitch their business ideas in front of a casting producer for the hit ABC show.

Sunday 47 ABC met a local entrepreneur who participated last year and won a  $10,000 grant for his product through one of the entrepreneurship competitions held at  SU during the casting.

Joost Elling is eighteen and is the owner and CEO of Joost Waffle Company. He tells us he got the idea for the business while traveling in the Netherlands when he was just fourteen-years-old.

He fell in love with stroopwafels while he was there. Stroopwafels are thin, waffle-cookies layered with caramel and chocolate.

He says Shark Tank boosted his confidence and allowed him to grow distribution of his products. Elling says he has big plans for the future.

Joost Elling, the CEO of Joost Waffle Company says, “I want try and make it the official Delaware state cookie as soon as I can. I’ve talked to a local state representative about it. Hopefully I can get it as soon as I can.”

47 ABC has teamed up with the Perdue School of Business to host the casting call on May 9th.

Elling will be there meeting with a food scientist to work on extending the shelf life of his product.
