Women struggle to identify signs of stroke

A new study conducted by the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center says that only 11 percent of women could correctly identify pregnancy, lupus, migraine headaches and oral contraception as female-specific stroke risks.
Hiccups combined with atypical chest pain and hypertension is among the early warning signs of a stroke.
Dr. James Burns, the director of the occupational health center with the Peninsula Regional Medical Center says, “It’s important to identify it early on in order to prevent the potential devastating effects of a stroke and or heart attack, which can be up to a concluding death.”
Stroke awareness month begins in May. Peninsula Regional Medical center will be holding several events throughout the month to teach people about risk factors and preventative measures of stroke.
