With new plans, Dover Days staff expect another successful weekend

What has become the largest free family event in Kent County will be back in Dover this weekend.

The 82nd Annual Dover Days event will kick off this Friday and run through Sunday.

Among some new additions this year, there will be a civil war re-enactment group all weekend and a history heritage festival on Saturday.

According to the Kent County Tourism office, about 50,000 people attended last year’s event, which generated at least $5.4 million in Kent County’s economy.

“It has grown from a garden tour in 1933 devoted to showcasing Dover and Kent county all the way to the big event it is now,” says Lorraine Dion. “We still showcase Dover and Delaware’s history but there’s a lot of unique things added to it and it’s gotten big.”
