Va. student charged after sword found in book bag at school

(AP) – Portsmouth police have charged a 17-year-old male with possessing a sword at school.
Media outlets report the student at I.C. Norcom High School was charged Wednesday with brandishing a bladed weapon, possession of a weapon on school property and disorderly conduct.
Police said in a news release that school resource officer detained the student when his bus arrived at school, and a sword was found during a search of the student’s book bag.
Portsmouth Public Schools Superintendent Elie Bracy says officials were notified after the student was heard making threats. Bracy says no classes were disrupted and police says no injuries were reported.
The student was remanded to a juvenile detention center in Chesapeake pending a hearing.
