UPDATE: One cited after crash involving three school buses and a dump truck

Police say a dump truck ran a red light, causing a four vehicle crash with three school buses, Thursday morning in Lincoln.

Delaware State Police say around 7:35 AM on Thursday, 23-year-old Dillion Taylor, of Greenwood was driving a 1999 Mack dump truck on Route 113, coming up to a red light at the intersection of Johnson Road/Fitzgerald Road. At that same time, a privately owned 2008 International school bus was turning onto 113 from Johnson Road.

According to the report, the dump truck ran the light, and then swerved to avoid the school bus, but still hit it on the front left corner. After the initial hit, Police say the dump truck then continued, hitting a second school bus head-on, this one owned by RJK Transportation, that was stopped in the southbound left turn lane of 113. That bus then apparently went on to hit a third school bus, also owned by RJK, that had been stopped directly behind the second. The two buses were reportedly waiting to turn onto Johnson Road, headed to Morris Early Childhood Center in Lincoln.

One bus driver, who had no students on her bus, was taken from the scene by EMS to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and released. The two other bus drivers, along with six students ages 3 and 4-years-old from the second bus, were all wearing seat belts, and were uninjured in the crash.

Taylor, the dump truck driver, who was also apparently wearing a seat belt, was taken to MMH, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, and later released. He was also cited with failure to stop at a red light.

State Police say DNREC also responded to the scene, to deal with a diesel fuel spill from the dump truck. One lane northbound, and one lane southbound of Route 113 were closed for about five hours while crews worked to clean up the fuel spill, and investigate the crash.
