UPDATE: New details released after reports of gunman near Easton Middle School

One day after Police in Easton said reports of a person with a gun near Easton Middle School were unfounded, they have found out new details.
Easton Police say on Thursday around 6:45 PM, an employee with the YMCA went to the Police Department to hand over a black air-soft gun that was taken from a 12-year-old boy at the facility earlier in the day. The pistol apparently looked like a 9mm handgun, but was made of plastic, had an orange tip, and is spring loaded for discharging plastic pellets.
The YMCA apparently said that other juveniles at the facility told the staff about another kid that had a BB gun. The staff was then able to find the child, and take the pistol.
Police say within an hour of meeting with the YMCA employee, the 12-year-old and his guardian responded to the Police Department, and explained what happened.
According to the report, the the juvenile, an Easton Middle School student, was given the pistol by a friend who lives in the area of “5-Corners” which is at S. Washington Street and Peachblossom Road, which is where the witness reported the armed person. He then apparently walked in the area of Tripp Ave, holding the pistol openly in his hand but he never went to the school. Police say he did later walk back to the YMCA at around 5:00 PM.
Easton Police say their investigation found that no crime was committed and no other action will be taken. They are however reminding residents of all ages that it is “never a smart decision to be in any public area, especially near a school, holding a realistic toy gun.”
The Department says they are also evaluating the way the situation was handled. They are apparently satisfied with their officer’s performances, there still room for improvement.
