UPDATE: Boil advisory in effect for Crisfield residents

A warning to all residents of the city of Crisfield, officials tell 47 ABC a water main break has made it unsafe to consume tap water, at this time.

The City of Crisfield says overnight on Wednesday, there was a water outage in the city, into Thursday morning. Officials say water was restored around 9:00 AM, but residents will need to boil it before drinking it.

This should continue until 12:00 AM on Sunday. The water is fine to use for bathing and washing, but boiled for at least one minute and cooled before using it for drinking food preparation, mixing baby formula, making ice, or brushing teeth.

City officials say after a loss of pressure, the risk of contamination in the water distribution system increases. The boiling is a precautionary measure, until Authorities can confirm that the bacteria is gone, which could take up to 4 days.

Affected residents are reportedly in the areas of City of Crisfield and the Somerset County Sanitary District. Officials clarify for residents to run taps from the lowest part of the house if water is discolored, until the tap runs clear.
