Shots fired on and off Delaware State University campus

Sunday at 1:15 AM shots rang out near the University Courtyard Apartments.

There were no injuries reported but it was the second time in about five hours that shots were fired near Delaware State University.

Saturday at 8 PM, a gunman opened fire on campus at the annual Greek cook-out a University-sanctioned event.

Three men suffered injuries and are currently reported in stable condition.

None of the wounded men are connected with the University according to DSU spokesman Carlos Holmes.

Students tell 47 ABC the Greek cook-out is always well-attended by students involved in fraternities and sororities but also by people who don’t even go to DSU crowds considered intrusive by some.

Marquis Johnson, who has a sibling at DSU, spoke of his initial concerns, “I was actually kinda concerned for my sister.

“I just think they’re tired of the fact that everybody wants to ruin things for the school.”, Said Jerome Johnson, a Junior at DSU.

No arrests have been made in either of the shooting events which DSU says are not related to each other.

University Police are leading the investigation and cannot comment about whether they are searching for a specific suspect.

After the shooting Saturday the University directed all students to stay in their dorms, and all non-DSU students to leave campus.

As of Sunday, students returned to walking around campus freely but outsiders are still being told to leave.

DSU spokesman Carlos Holmes tells 47 ABC that officials will have discussions about whether events like the Greek cook-out will continue.

Classes will resume as normally scheduled tomorrow.
