One arrested after Milford burglary and firearm theft

Police in Milford say they were able to find a burglary suspect, after the person who’s car they borrowed, reported it missing.

The Milford Police Criminal Division says on April 14, Officers responded to East Street, for reports of a burglary involving the theft of a firearm. During that investigation, Police say they were notified about a separate report from someone saying that they had allowed 26-year-old Matthew Gannon Jr., to borrow their car, but that he hadn’t brought it back. An arrest warrant was issued for Gannon’s arrest.

Police say the New Castle County Task Force was later able to arrest Gannon in New Castle County, before being turned over to Milford Police. It was reportedly found that Gannon was the suspect in the East Street burglary, where he went into the home, and stole a firearm before fleeing.

He was charged with burglary 2nd degree, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft of a firearm, criminal mischief under $1,000, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, along with traffic offenses. Gannon is now behind bars at Sussex Correctional Institution on $21,000 bond.
