OCPD catch thieves who left behind a cell phone

Ocean City police say they have arrested two teens on multiple boardwalk shop thefts, after the teens left their cell phone behind. Police say Joel I. Swabon, 19, of Pasadena, MD and a 17-year-old female of Annapolis, MD, reportedly fled from Cool Topics Friday after attempting to steal items from the store. Police say an employee of the store attempted to stop Swabon, who assaulted the employee before the two fled the area.

Officers say they were unable to locate the teens after that incident, but the employees located a cell phone that the suspects left behind. Officers say they investigated and ended up meeting the suspects to “return the phone,” leading to the arrest. Police say following the arrest, they were able to return several items to different boardwalk area stores.

Ocean City police say Swabon was charged with six counts of theft less than $100, second degree assault, possession of an assisted-opening knife and theft scheme of less than $1,000. Police say Swabon was held at the Ocean City Public Safety Building and released on $15,000 unsecured bond. Reports say the 17-year-old female was also charged with six counts of theft less than $100, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft scheme of less than $1,000. She was apparently released to a guardian a short time after her arrest.
