Mardela Uses 11-Run First Inning To Cruise Past Decatur

The Mardela High School softball team extended its winning streak to six games with a five-inning 13-3 victory over Stephen Decatur Monday afternoon. The Warriors move to 7-1 for the season, while the Seahawks slip to 2-6.
Decatur was the first to get on the board in this one, scoring a run in the top of the first, but the bottom half of the inning was controlled entirely by Mardela. An 11-run inning was highlighted by a stand-up double by Sydney Goertzen that cleared a bases-loaded situation.
In the top of the fifth, a RBI double by Peyton Goslee cut the Decatur deficit to 10, but Amber Lovelace handled it on the mound, sitting down the final batter to end the game 13-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
The Warriors head on the road to James M. Bennett on Tuesday, while the Seahawks head to Crisfield on Wednesday. Both games are set to start at 4 p.m.
