Law enforcement discuss social media threats

Tuesday social media sites were circulating rumors that protesters would be leaving Baltimore and taking to counties. The information turned out to be false.

So how do law enforcement know what information online is fact and what’s fiction?  Easton Police say they at a glance, they don’t.

They say what they do know is how to track someone down. Lieutenant Gregory Wright says people commonly think that using an alias online will disguise their identity.

However, they say when an online threat circulates their intelligence personnel can track down the source.

Lt. Wright  “We converse with each other to this is what we’re hearing and see if there’s any lengths this information to what’s being said on twitter. At no time especially in days like this do we let our guard down.”

Easton Police say if any one sees a threat on social media, report it to your local police department.
