Hill, Andrews push Blue Raiders past Redskins
Senior starter Hailey Andrews struck out 17 batters and Yasmin Hill hit a 3-run walk-in-the-park home run to push Woodbridge past Conrad, 6-2 Saturday afternoon.
Conrad led 1-0 in the third inning, when Sarah Bessel stole third base successfully, and then came home off an errant throw by Woodbridge catcher Ria Ogden. Woodbridge would get one back in the bottom of the third, when Brittanie Stephenson came home on a 1st and 3rd double steal.
Down 2-1 in the fifth, Woodbridge was dead in the water until Yasmin Hill came to the plate with two runners on and blasted a line drive to right field, which got past the Conrad defender, with the ball rolling all the way to the fence, the speedy Hill would round the bases fairly easily for a stand up inside-the-park-home run, giving the Blue Raiders a 4-2 lead. The Blue Raiders would add two more runs in bottom of the sixth off a Conrad throwing error.
The four run cushion would be more than enough for Andrews, who struck out the final batter of the game, her 17th of the day. Woodbridge (4-3) will travel to Lake Forest Tuesday, first pitch is scheduled for 4:15
