Fundraiser set for local Gymnastics team

A local gymnastics team in Wicomico County is achieving great things, but they need some help. The Delmarva Competitive Gymnastics Association practices at Beach Bounders in Fruitland. The DCGA will be hosting a quarter auction at the Fruitland Fire Department on Saturday, May 2.

There are about 90 athletes on the competitive team, including 12 state champions. The team competes as far as Orlando, Florida.

Coach Joanne Dechert says this sport can be expensive, and this auction can help offset some costs.   

“Our girls compete in approximately eight competitions a year and those competitions are additional expenses to the parents on top of tuition, so this competition will help us be able to help those parents with those costs,” says Dechert.

Their last state competition of the season will be the weekend of April 24.
